In Natalie Schmidt’s recent body of work, she explores the intersections between painting and textiles. Taking influence from textiles, embroidery, weaving and garment making as well as fairytales and fantasy, she incorporates these elements together to create enchanting painted collages.

The works are supported in a burnt and distressed wooden structure made by artist Kiyoshi Whitley. The structure is made of wooden panels and boards that are adorned with burnt designs and crude drill markings created by Whitley. Schmidt’s collages involve painted canvas that is cut and assembled into various forms that are seemingly held together with painted string.
